Dua for Protection from the Evil of Misleading Leaders

Guidance & Hidayah
Sahih HadithThe Book of Leadership 1828

O Allah, whoever is given charge of any affair of my Ummah and makes things difficult for them, make things difficult for him. And whoever is given charge of any affair of my Ummah and is kind to them, be kind to him.

Allahumma man waliya min amri ummati shai'an fashaqqa 'alaihim fashquq 'alaihi, wa man waliya min amri ummati shai'an farafaqa bihim farfuq bih.

When to Read

Leadership is a heavy trust, and its impact on the Ummah can be profound, for good or ill. The Prophet ﷺ understood this deeply, which is why he made this powerful supplication concerning those in authority. This dua is particularly relevant when you observe leaders, whether in government, community, or even family, who are making decisions that cause hardship, sow discord, or mislead the people from the straight path. You can recite this dua during times of political turmoil, when seeking Allah's intervention for righteous leadership, or as part of your general supplications for the welfare of the Muslim Ummah. It's a prayer against oppression and for justice and ease for the Muslims.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity, firmly believing in Allah's perfect justice and His ability to respond to every supplication. When you say it, reflect on the gravity of leadership and the responsibility that comes with it. Understand that you are asking Allah, the ultimate King and Judge, to deal with leaders according to their treatment of His servants. Raise your hands in supplication, as is the Sunnah, and ask Allah to either rectify the hearts of those who mislead and cause hardship, or to replace them with those who will guide with justice and kindness.
