اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى.
O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.
Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.
When to Read
This is a comprehensive dua that can be recited at any time, but it is particularly beneficial when seeking Allah's protection and guidance in all matters of life, including safeguarding oneself from harmful influences like witchcraft and sorcery. It's wise to make this a part of your regular supplications, especially during times of vulnerability or when facing unsettling situations.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction, turning your heart towards Allah. It's recommended to raise your hands slightly while making dua, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this is a sign of humility and earnestness. Speak clearly and with a hopeful heart, trusting in Allah's power to protect and guide you.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates a profound request for spiritual and material well-being. 'Guidance' (Huda) encompasses knowledge and the ability to follow the truth. 'Piety' (Tuqa) means having consciousness of Allah and guarding oneself against His displeasure. 'Chastity' (Afaf) refers to purity and refraining from that which is unlawful or inappropriate, both in actions and desires. 'Self-sufficiency' (Ghina) means being content and not needing to depend on others, thus avoiding situations that might compromise one's faith or dignity. By asking for these, one is essentially seeking Allah's help to live a life pleasing to Him, which naturally includes protection from deceptive arts like witchcraft.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'No one dies among my Ummah but Allah will not be pleased with what the people have done to him. He will be forgiven by My intercession.' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what does Allah mean by that?' He said: 'Every Muslim is my witness on earth.' A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what does Allah mean by that?' He said: 'What you have done to him, i.e. you have done what Allah has commanded you to do.' Then he said: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.' *Note: The first part of this hadith narrative seems to be a misquotation or a different narration that has been combined. The core supplication remains valid and its meaning profound as explained above. The part about 'Allah will not be pleased with what the people have done to him' appears to be a misunderstanding or misattribution, as Allah is pleased with obedience and good deeds. The supplication itself, 'Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina,' is authentically reported and highly beneficial.*
