Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua asks for two crucial elements: 'ihdini' (guide me) and 'saddidni' (set me aright or make me firm/straight). It's not just about initial guidance, but about being established upon it. Asking Allah to 'make the path of righteousness clear' is vital for navigating life's complexities. The request to be 'adorned with the adornment of Islam' means to embody its teachings and values, making Islam a beautiful part of our character. Finally, asking 'do not strip it from me' shows our reliance on Allah for preserving this precious gift of faith.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say, when he stood up for prayer: 'O Allah, guide me and set me aright, and make me self-sufficient and grant me sustenance. O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your anger, and in Your forgiveness from Your punishment, and in You from You. I cannot count Your praises; You are as You have praised Yourself.' He also said (and this is the version found in Sahih Muslim): 'O Allah, guide me and set me aright, and by Your guidance, make the path of righteousness clear to me, and adorn me with the adornment of Islam, and do not strip it from me.'
