اَللَّهُمَّ اِنِّى اَسْأَلُكَ اَلْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina

When to Read

This is a comprehensive dua that can be recited at any time, especially after salah (prayers) when supplications are most likely to be answered. It's particularly relevant when facing situations that might tempt one to deviate from the truth, or when seeking to strengthen one's resolve to always speak honestly.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, preferably with your hands raised in supplication. Focus on the meaning of each word and the profound request you are making to Allah (SWT). It's a request for complete guidance that encompasses all aspects of life, including the way we speak.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful request for comprehensive guidance. 'Al-huda' (guidance) encompasses knowing the truth and being guided to act upon it, which directly relates to speaking truthfully. 'At-tuqa' (piety) involves guarding oneself against Allah's displeasure, which naturally includes avoiding falsehood. 'Al-'afaf' (chastity/abstinence) can also extend to abstaining from harmful speech. 'Al-ghina' (self-sufficiency) means being content with what Allah has provided, reducing the need to resort to dishonesty out of desperation. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ frequently made this dua, highlighting its immense importance for a balanced and righteous life.
