O Allah, guide me and set me right, and by Your guidance, make clear the ways of right conduct. Remind me of piety and forgive me for evil deeds, and protect me from all evil.
Allahumma ihdini wa saddidni, wadhkur bi hidayatika sanan ar-rashadi, wa dhakkirni bit-taqwa, waghfir li bi 'amal is-soo', wa a'idhni min sharri dhalika kullih.
When to Read
This is a profound supplication taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked the Prophet for a comprehensive prayer. It's perfect to recite when you feel overwhelmed by disagreements, find yourself in tense situations, or simply wish to cultivate a more harmonious approach to your interactions with others. Recite it before engaging in a difficult conversation or whenever you need Allah's wisdom to guide your words and actions.
How to Read
This dua emphasizes seeking Allah's guidance and rectitude directly. Begin by making sincere intention in your heart to resolve conflicts with peace and wisdom. Raise your hands slightly as you recite, focusing on the meaning and pouring your heart out to Allah. It's best recited after the obligatory prayers, but can be recited anytime you feel the need for Allah's help in managing your relationships. Imagine Allah's light illuminating your path in navigating these challenges.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua asks for several crucial elements for peaceful conflict resolution. Firstly, 'guidance' (hidayah) is the cornerstone, enabling us to discern the right path. 'Set me right' (saddidni) asks for accuracy and straightness in our actions and words, preventing missteps. It also requests remembrance of piety (taqwa), which acts as a deterrent against wrongdoing. The prayer for forgiveness for evil deeds acknowledges our human fallibility, and seeking protection from all evil encompasses both external harms and our own negative inclinations. By internalizing these requests, we become better equipped to handle disagreements with patience, empathy, and a desire for reconciliation, reflecting the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ.
