O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overpowering of debt and the subjugation of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.
When to Read
This powerful supplication is particularly relevant when life feels smooth and easy. When our rizq is plentiful, our health is good, and we face no immediate hardship, it's easy for our hearts to become complacent or proud. We might forget that these blessings are from Allah and begin to attribute them to our own efforts, or take them for granted. Reciting this dua regularly, especially in the morning, is a way to continually seek Allah's protection from internal states of being that can lead us astray, even in times of outward peace.
How to Read
This dua is best recited after the obligatory prayers or at any opportune time. It's recommended to raise your hands slightly and face the Qiblah if possible, as you would when making other supplications. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, internalizing the reliance on Allah. Say it with sincerity and conviction, believing that Allah alone can grant you protection from these afflictions, including the subtle spiritual dangers that prosperity can bring.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua protects us from debilitating emotional states (worry and grief), incapacitating weaknesses (incapacity and laziness), and destructive character flaws (cowardice and stinginess). By extension, it helps us guard against complacency and arrogance that can arise from a lack of struggle. When we are protected from these inner ills, we are better equipped to remain humble, grateful, and focused on our purpose, even when surrounded by ease and abundance. It's a safeguard against the spiritual pitfalls that success can sometimes present.

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say, "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from disbelief, poverty, disgrace, and I seek refuge in You from torment in the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the Hellfire, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of the test of the Antichrist. O Allah! I beseech You to grant me sound judgment, and to admit me to Your Paradise, and to keep me safe from things which would bring disgrace in this life and the next." And he used to seek refuge in Allah from the overpowering of debt and the subjugation of men, saying: "O Allah! I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, from overpowering debt and subjugation by men."
