Dua for Guidance to Firmly Grasp the Sunnah

Guidance & Hidayah
Sahih HadithThe Book of Pilgrimage 771

O Allah, guide me to the best of conduct and deeds, for none can guide to the best of them except You. And divert me from bad conduct and deeds, for none can divert from the worst of them except You.

Allahumma ihdini li-ahsanil-akhlaq la yahdi li-ahsaniha illa anta, wasrif anni sayyi'aha la yasrifu anni sayyi'aha illa anta.

When to Read

This dua is especially potent when you feel yourself wavering in your commitment to following the Prophet's ﷺ way, or when facing choices where the Sunnah is clear but temptation to deviate is strong. Recite it after every prayer, or at the start of your day, asking Allah to solidify your resolve.

How to Read

Recite this supplication with sincerity and a humble heart. Raise your hands as you do, especially after obligatory prayers, and place your forehead on the ground in sujood for deeper humility. Focus on the meaning and truly ask Allah to shape your character and actions according to His best-loved way.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua is a direct plea to Allah for the best character and conduct. By asking for guidance to the 'best of akhlaq' (character, manners, deeds), we are implicitly asking to be guided to the way of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, as his Sunnah embodies the highest moral and ethical standards. Allah's guidance is the ultimate source of success in adhering to the Sunnah.
