Guidance & Hidayah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2721

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina

When to Read

This dua is profoundly relevant when faced with a proliferation of innovations (bid'ah) and deviating viewpoints. Recite it regularly, especially in the mornings and evenings, or whenever you feel your resolve weakening or confusion creeping in regarding the authentic Sunnah.

How to Read

Recite this supplication with sincerity and a focused heart. Raise your hands as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us for supplication. Understand the meaning of each request: guidance (huda) to the straight path, piety (tuqa) to fear Allah and avoid His displeasure, chastity ('afaf) in character and sustenance, and contentment (ghina) with what Allah provides, so as not to desire what others possess. Make it a habit, making it a significant part of your remembrance of Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua encapsulates a Muslim's need for divine assistance in navigating life's challenges, particularly in maintaining steadfastness on the Sunnah amidst a sea of innovations. By asking for guidance, we seek Allah's light to distinguish truth from falsehood. Piety ensures we act with awareness of Allah's presence. Chastity protects us from moral decay and dependence on others, while contentment shields us from envy and dissatisfaction, making us less susceptible to seeking alternatives to the Sunnah out of worldly desire or frustration. It is a powerful prayer for spiritual well-being and adherence to the path of the Prophet ﷺ.
