O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment of me is just. I ask You by every Name that You have called Yourself, or taught to any one of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries. When to Read

This powerful dua is perfect for reciting any time you feel overwhelmed by addiction or a persistent bad habit. It's particularly fitting when you're seeking a deep inner transformation and need Allah's help to shift your focus and desires away from what is harmful and towards what is beneficial. Make it a part of your daily supplications, especially during the quiet moments of the night or after your prayers, when your heart is most receptive.

How to Read

Begin by making a sincere intention to seek Allah's help and to truly change. Recite this dua with full concentration, reflecting on its meaning. Place your hand on your chest as you ask for the Qur'an to be the spring of your heart and light of your chest, internalizing the request for spiritual healing. Repeat the key phrases if it helps you feel more connected. Be consistent in your recitation and trust in Allah's plan.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is a comprehensive plea for inner peace and guidance. By asking Allah to make the Qur'an the 'springtime of the heart,' we're asking for it to bring life, growth, and renewal to our inner selves, washing away the dryness and stagnation caused by bad habits. As the 'light of the chest,' it illuminates our path, dispelling the darkness of confusion and wrong desires. It's a powerful tool for mental and emotional well-being, offering a remedy for sorrow and worry. The profound humility in acknowledging our servitude and Allah's ultimate control ('My forelock is in Your hand') opens the doors to His mercy and assistance in overcoming our struggles.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from 'Abdullah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: 'There is no servant who is afflicted with distress or grief and says: "O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment of me is just. I ask You by every Name that You have called Yourself, or taught to any one of Your creation, or revealed in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries." – except that Allah will remove his distress and grief, and replace them with relief.' He was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we learn these words?' He replied: 'Yes, it is befitting for whoever hears them to learn them.'
