Guidance & Hidayah
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 7305

اللَّهُمَّ فَقِّهْنِي فِي الدِّينِ وَعَلِّمْنِي التَّأْوِيلَ

O Allah, grant me understanding in religion and teach me the interpretation (of the Quran).

Allahumma faqqihni fid-deen wa 'allimnit-ta'weel

When to Read

This dua is profoundly relevant when you are embarking on learning Fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), or any time you feel a lack of clarity or direction in understanding religious rulings. Recite it before studying, during difficult lessons, or whenever you seek to apply a ruling correctly in your daily life. It's a beautiful supplication to make when seeking Allah's wisdom to grasp the nuances of His hukum (judgments).

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, with full conviction in Allah's ability to bestow knowledge and understanding. Raise your hands if possible, facing the Qiblah. Focus on the meaning of the words, internalizing the request for deep insight into religion and the correct interpretation of Allah's Book. Repeat it regularly, especially at the times mentioned above, to embed it into your spiritual practice.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, directly taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, signifies a deep aspiration for sound knowledge in Islam. By asking Allah to 'faqqihni fid-deen' (make me understand religion), one seeks more than just memorizing rules; it's about grasping the wisdom, purpose, and spirit behind the rulings. The request to be taught 'at-ta'weel' (interpretation) highlights the importance of understanding the deeper meanings and context, especially of the Quran, which is the ultimate source of Fiqh. Imam al-Bukhari beautifully titled a chapter in his Sahih: 'The Chapter: Whoever Allah Wills Good for, He Gives Him Understanding in the Religion (Fiqh)' with this very hadith, indicating that profound understanding of Fiqh is a sign of Allah's favor and a path to goodness. It is through such understanding that one can truly implement Islam in their life.
