Dua for Guidance and Wisdom When Facing Trials

Guidance & Hidayah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2721

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina

When to Read

This is a profound supplication the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often make. Recite it anytime, especially when you feel overwhelmed by life's challenges, when making important decisions, or when seeking to strengthen your resolve and faith. It's particularly relevant when facing trials where clarity of thought and steadfastness are needed.

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication as you would for any dua. Recite with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of each word. Understand that you are directly asking Allah, the Most High, for these essential qualities. Repeat it consistently, making it a habit in your daily remembrance.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses a comprehensive request for spiritual and worldly well-being. Guidance (Huda) illuminates the right path, piety (Tuqa) keeps you away from sin, chastity ('Afaf) protects your honor and purity, and contentment (Ghina) brings peace to the heart, making you independent of others' possessions. Seeking these from Allah grants a sense of inner peace and strength to navigate trials with wisdom and patience.
