اَللّٰهُمَّ اِنِّىْ اَسْاَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَّ رِزْقًا طَيِّبًا وَّ عَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan
When to Read
This is a comprehensive dua taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to be recited after Fajr prayer. It's particularly relevant when faced with complex situations, differing opinions, or when seeking to understand matters with clarity and discernment. When controversy arises or you feel lost in a sea of information, turning to this dua can help you seek Allah's guidance towards what is true and beneficial.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and a focused heart after the obligatory Fajr (dawn) prayer. Ensure you understand the meaning of the words. Raise your hands gently as you make the supplication, a practice often observed by the Prophet ﷺ. After reciting, reflect on the request: asking for knowledge that benefits, provision that is pure, and deeds that are accepted by Allah. This sets a mindset of seeking divine wisdom in all aspects of life, including navigating disagreements.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses seeking three vital aspects for a Muslim navigating life and its challenges: 1. **Beneficial Knowledge ('Ilman Naafi'an'):** This isn't just academic knowledge, but knowledge that guides you to what is right, helps you implement it, and brings you closer to Allah. In times of controversy, this leads to understanding the truth and acting upon it. 2. **Goodly Provision (Rizqan Tayyiban'):** This covers all forms of sustenance – wealth, health, family, and opportunities – that are pure, lawful, and blessed by Allah. Having pure provision helps in maintaining a clear conscience. 3. **Acceptable Deeds ('Amalan Mutaqabbalan'):** This is the ultimate goal – that our actions are performed sincerely for Allah's sake and accepted by Him. When our deeds are accepted, they bring peace and assurance, helping us distinguish between what pleases Allah and what displeases Him, even amidst conflicting narratives.

An-Nawawi related in his 'Forty Hadith' that it is related by Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is of benefit, and a goodly provision, and deeds that are acceptable.' (Sahih Muslim, Book 1, Hadith 162). The context in Sahih Muslim (973) is specifically after Fajr prayer.
