Guidance & Hidayah
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2707

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the vanishing of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuj'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik.

When to Read

This dua is potent for reciting regularly, especially in the morning and evening (after Fajr and Asr prayers) as part of your remembrance of Allah. It's particularly relevant when you feel a sense of comfort or ease, as a reminder to remain vigilant against complacency and to continuously seek Allah's protection over the blessings He has bestowed upon you. Think of it as a spiritual check-in to ensure your heart remains grateful and your actions aligned with His pleasure.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a present heart, truly feeling the need for Allah's protection. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us specific phrases for seeking refuge, and understanding the meaning behind them enhances their impact. Imagine actively asking the One who granted you these blessings to safeguard them and to keep you from straying. It’s not just about reciting words; it’s about conveying a deep-seated humility and reliance on Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses the human tendency towards complacency when life is good. By seeking refuge from the 'vanishing of blessings,' we're asking Allah to help us maintain our gratitude and prevent the blessings from being withdrawn due to our ingratitude or negligence. Asking for protection against 'the change of Your protection' reminds us that true safety and well-being are only from Allah, and they can be altered if we displease Him. The plea against 'the suddenness of Your vengeance' and 'all of Your displeasure' is a profound recognition of our need to constantly seek His favor and avoid actions that lead to His anger. It fosters a balanced spiritual state – acknowledging His favors while remaining mindful and striving to please Him.

Narrated by Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the vanishing of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.'
