Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his uncle Al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), is a powerful request for four foundational aspects of a blessed life: * **Guidance (Al-Huda):** This encompasses guidance in all matters – understanding the truth, adhering to Islam, and making righteous choices. * **Piety (At-Tuqa):** Seeking Allah's protection from what He has forbidden and fulfilling His commands. * **Chastity/Self-Restraint ('Afaf):** Asking Allah to protect you from temptation and to enable you to maintain purity in your thoughts, actions, and dealings. * **Richness/Contentment (Al-Ghina):** This refers to inner richness and contentment with what Allah provides, freeing one from greed and dependence on creation. It is the essence of accepting His will, knowing that He is the best provider and disposer of affairs. By asking for these, we are essentially asking for the inner capacity to accept whatever Allah decrees, as these qualities help us trust His wisdom and plan.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): Al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah, I want to be taught something. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "O Allah, I ask You for firmness in the command, and I ask You for the resolve to follow righteousness, and I ask You for gratitude for Your blessings, and I ask You for good conduct in relation to the people, and I ask You for a sound heart, and I ask You for the truthfulness of the tongue, and I ask You for a strong will, and I ask You for the implementation of the decree, and I ask You for the opportunity to live a life of piety, and I ask You for the ability to shorten my hopes, and I ask You for the best of provisions, and I ask You for the best of deeds, and I ask You for the best of knowledge, and I ask You for the best of actions. O Allah, I ask You for the contentment with the decree, and the pleasant life after death, and the sweetness of beholding Your Face, and the longing to meet You, and I seek refuge in You from misguidance, or being led astray, or causing others to go astray, or being oppressed, or oppressing, or reviling, or being reviled. I ask You for guidance, and piety, and chastity, and richness (contentment)." And the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "O Al-Abbas, O my uncle, these are indeed the requests I asked my Lord, so say them every morning after the dawn prayer."
