Glorified are You, O Allah, and praised be You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You.
Subhanakallahumma wa bihamdika, ash-hadu an la ilaha illa Anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaika
When to Read
Imagine you’ve just wrapped up a gathering—perhaps a meeting to plan a new sadaqah project, or a brainstorming session for a community outreach program. Your heart is filled with hope that Allah accepts your collective efforts and blesses the intentions behind them. Before you disperse, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us a profound supplication that seals our gathering, purifying it from any unintended shortcomings and making it pleasing to Allah. Recite this dua right before you rise to leave any assembly, especially those dedicated to noble deeds like charity.
How to Read
Simply say these words aloud, or to yourself, at the very end of your gathering, just before you physically stand up to depart. It's a moment of reflection and turning to Allah, concluding your time together with remembrance of Him and seeking His forgiveness for any idle chatter or minor misstep that might have occurred. While the words are few, the sincerity and intention behind them are immense: to ensure our efforts are pure and accepted, concluding our charitable endeavor in a way that truly pleases Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
The immense blessing of this dua, known as Kaffaratul Majlis (the expiation of the gathering), is that it serves as a purification for any assembly. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ promised us that whoever recites this dua before leaving a gathering in which there was idle talk, 'then whatever idle talk occurred in that gathering will be forgiven for him' (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3433). For our charitable gatherings, this means we are not only striving to help others but also striving to ensure our intentions and actions *within* the meeting itself are purified. It’s a shield against heedlessness and a way to conclude our noble efforts on a note of submission and seeking divine pleasure. It helps ensure that our good deeds are not tarnished by minor slips of the tongue or distractions, allowing the full reward of our charitable efforts to shine through, insha'Allah.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Whoever sits in a gathering in which there is much idle talk, and before he gets up to leave, says: سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ (Glorified are You, O Allah, and praised be You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You), then whatever idle talk occurred in that gathering will be forgiven for him.'
