When to Read

Recite this dua at the beginning of any meeting, gathering, or collaborative project. It's especially useful when you anticipate potential disagreements, misunderstandings, or difficulties in achieving consensus among a group. Consider saying it as you prepare to enter the meeting room or as everyone settles in.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and focus, understanding that true success in any endeavor comes from Allah. Raise your hands slightly if possible, as is customary when making dua. Focus on the meaning: asking for clarity in understanding, fairness in interactions, and acceptance of any positive outcomes achieved through the group's efforts. Imagine each person in the group benefiting from Allah's guidance.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) after her prayers, encapsulates a comprehensive request for well-being in this life and the hereafter. By asking for beneficial knowledge, we seek wisdom to understand situations clearly and communicate effectively. Asking for pure provisions encompasses the idea of seeking that which is lawful and good, which can extend to the integrity and fairness of the group's actions and decisions. Finally, requesting accepted deeds means our efforts, both individually and as a group, are pleasing to Allah and contribute to good. When applied to group dynamics, this dua helps align intentions towards what is right and fosters an environment where collaboration can lead to righteous outcomes.

Source & Authentication

When the Prophet (ﷺ) finished the morning prayer, he would say: Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan. (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and accepted deeds). Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, I did not hear you saying these words except when you finished the prayer.' He said: 'I did not stop saying them after the prayer.'
