Dua for Truthfulness and Honesty in Collective Deliberations

Gatherings & Meetings
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is recommended to be recited after the Fajr (dawn) prayer. It sets a positive and righteous tone for the entire day, which is particularly beneficial when entering into collective discussions or meetings where truthfulness and honesty are paramount. Reciting it before a meeting or gathering can invoke Allah's blessings upon the discussion, seeking sincerity and acceptance of the outcomes.

How to Read

Recite this dua after completing the Fajr prayer, while still seated in your place of prayer or shortly after. Raise your hands in supplication, feel the sincerity in your heart, and ask Allah with conviction. The emphasis is on seeking knowledge that benefits, provision that is pure, and actions that are accepted by Him. This mindset fosters an environment of truthfulness and integrity, which can then be carried into group deliberations.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific dua doesn't directly address group deliberations in its wording, its principles are foundational. Seeking 'beneficial knowledge' (ilman nafi'an) encourages us to engage with facts and truth. Asking for 'goodly provision' (rizqan tayyiban) promotes integrity in all dealings. The ultimate aim for 'acceptable deeds' ('amalan mutaqabbalan) pushes us towards sincerity and righteousness in our interactions. When individuals within a group are striving for these qualities, the collective deliberation is naturally guided towards truthfulness, justice, and outcomes that please Allah.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'If he spends the morning as a supplicant, then he supplicates for three things: knowledge that benefits, provision that is good, and deeds that are accepted.' – Sahih Ibn Majah 925. The scholars mention that this is what the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say when he had finished the morning prayer.
