Gatherings & Meetings
Sahih HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3844

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This dua is particularly relevant before entering a challenging meeting where you anticipate difficult discussions, opposition, or the need for clarity and sound judgment. It can be recited just before the meeting begins, or even in the moments leading up to it, to imbue your mind with beneficial thoughts and your actions with acceptance.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, turning to Allah for assistance. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly while making dua, though this is not mandatory for this specific supplication. Focus on the meaning of the words: seeking knowledge that benefits you and others, provision that is lawful and good, and actions that are pleasing to Allah and accepted by Him. This mindset prepares you to engage with wisdom and integrity, even in difficult circumstances.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific dua is for general benefit, its application before a difficult meeting can foster: * **Wisdom and Clarity:** Asking for beneficial knowledge helps you to articulate your points clearly and understand the perspectives of others, even when they are difficult. * **Integrity:** Seeking pure provision reminds you to act ethically and avoid compromises that might arise from pressure. * **Acceptance:** Requesting accepted deeds encourages you to approach the meeting with a good intention and conduct yourself in a manner that is pleasing to Allah, which can bring a sense of peace and purpose to the interaction. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this dua as a comprehensive request, encompassing aspects of worldly and religious well-being. By seeking these three things, we equip ourselves to face challenges with a stronger foundation.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to say when the morning came: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.' (Sahih Muslim 973, Sunan Ibn Majah 3844). The context of this hadith is the morning, a time of new beginnings. Applying it before a meeting, especially a difficult one, is drawing upon that same principle of seeking divine assistance at the outset of a significant undertaking.
