Gatherings & Meetings
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and deeds accepted by You.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This dua is excellent to recite *before* entering a community gathering, especially one you anticipate might be challenging or contain potential for disagreement or discomfort. It can also be recited at the *start* of such a gathering as you sit down.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and a clear intention, focusing on seeking Allah's help for a positive and beneficial experience. Raise your hands if you are praying alone, or make it a silent, heartfelt supplication if in a mixed gathering. Focus on the meaning of the words: seeking knowledge that benefits you, provision that is pure and lawful, and actions that are accepted by Allah. This sets a positive foundation for your engagement.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, covers crucial aspects of a Muslim's life. Asking for 'beneficial knowledge' helps us navigate situations with wisdom and understanding. 'Goodly provision' encompasses more than just wealth; it includes blessings in health, time, and relationships. Most importantly, seeking 'accepted deeds' ensures our efforts are recognized by Allah. When applied to a community gathering, this dua helps us to engage with good intentions, speak with wisdom, and act in a manner that is pleasing to Allah, thereby fostering strength and patience even amidst difficulties.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say when the morning came: 'O Allah, by You we greet the morning, and by You we greet the evening. By You we live, and by You we die, and to You is the destination. And when evening came, he would say: 'O Allah, by You we greet the evening, and by You we greet the morning. By You we live, and by You we die, and to You is the destination.' And he taught us to say: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, provision that is good and pure, and deeds that are accepted.' (Sunan Ibn Majah 925)
