When to Read

This dua is particularly relevant when seeking an audience with a knowledgeable scholar or mentor, especially if you hope to gain deeper understanding of religious matters. Recite it before approaching them, or even as you travel to meet them, asking Allah to bless the interaction and the knowledge you hope to gain. It’s also a beautiful dua to make generally for scholars and teachers in our community.

How to Read

With sincerity and a focused intention, asking Allah to facilitate the meeting and grant beneficial understanding. It's good etiquette to have a genuine purpose for the meeting and to be respectful of the scholar's time and knowledge. Making dua before such an important meeting can set the tone for a productive and blessed encounter.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication was made by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). By making a similar dua, we are essentially asking Allah to grant beneficial knowledge and understanding, mirroring the Prophet's ﷺ intercession for his companion. Seeking knowledge is a highly encouraged act in Islam, and asking Allah to facilitate this through meeting with scholars is a wise approach. It shows reliance on Allah and acknowledges that all true understanding comes from Him.
