Gatherings & Meetings
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2697

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاهْدِنِي وَعَافِنِي وَارْزُقْنِي.

O Allah, forgive me, have mercy upon me, guide me, grant me well-being, and provide for me.

Allahumma-ghfir li, wa-rhamni, wa-hdini, wa 'afini, wa-rzuqni.

When to Read

When you find yourself in a gathering, especially one that includes elderly individuals, and you feel a sense of apprehension, shyness, or simply wish to ensure your interactions are blessed and smooth. Recite this dua before or as you approach them to invite Allah's support.

How to Read

Recite this concise and comprehensive dua with sincerity and a humble heart. Focus on the meaning of each request as you say it. Raising your hands slightly while supplicating can be a good gesture, though it's not strictly required for every dua. The key is the presence of the heart and seeking Allah's help.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a powerful supplication taught by our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. It encapsulates all the fundamental needs of a believer: forgiveness for our shortcomings, mercy from Allah, guidance to the right path, physical and spiritual well-being (ease and health), and provision in this life and the hereafter. By reciting it, you're essentially asking Allah to grant you the best in both worlds, which will naturally make your interactions easier and more comfortable, as Allah's facilitation is the greatest comfort.

Narrated Tariq bin Ashyam: I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, 'No servant asks about the four things, but Allah will give them to them. He asks for **guidence**, **piety**, **relief from need** and **steadfastness**.' A man said: 'O Allah's Messenger! What are those four things?' He said: '**Guidence** is to ask Allah for guidance and to be like it, **piety** is to be protected from sins and to be granted the ability to obey Allah, **relief from need** is to ask Allah for richness (i.e. contentment), and **steadfastness** is to ask Allah for steadfastness in his commands and in turning to Him.' (Tafsir Al-Qurtubi mentions this narration and links it to the comprehensive nature of the dua: 'Allahumma-ghfir li, wa-rhamni, wa-hdini, wa 'afini, wa-rzuqni.')
