Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5108

In the name of Allah. O Allah, bless them in their heads, their hair, and their skins. Gather them for You in goodness.

Bismillahi, Allahumma barik lahum fi ra'sihim wa fi sha'rihim wa fi juludihim wa ajma'hum laka fi khairin.

When to Read

This dua is recommended to be recited when attending an 'aqiqah' (the Islamic tradition of sacrificing an animal for a newborn) gathering. It is particularly suitable to say when observing the newborn, congratulating the parents, or as the food is being served, invoking Allah's blessings upon the child and the family.

How to Read

Recite this supplication sincerely with the intention of seeking Allah's blessings for the family and the newborn. It is best to say it when you have a moment of quiet reflection amidst the gathering, perhaps after congratulating the parents or as you see the child. It's a prayer for them, so express it with a heartfelt desire for their well-being.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua brings Allah's barakah (blessings and increase) upon the newborn, their parents, and the entire household. It specifically asks for blessings in the physical aspects (head, hair, skin) and for the child to be gathered with the righteous on the Day of Judgment. By making this dua, you are actively participating in the spirit of the 'aqiqah' by invoking divine favor and wishing the best for the family, which is a beautiful way to share in their joy and strengthen community ties.

Source & Authentication

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Busr (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) came to us and we presented to him a young goat which had been sacrificed for him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Bless them in their hair and their skins.' (He repeated it three times.) Then he said: 'Bless them in their heads and their skins.' (He repeated it three times.) Then he said: 'O Allah, bless them in their heads, their hair, and their skins.' Then he said: 'O Allah, gather them for You in goodness.'
