Gatherings & Meetings
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 1/391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is inevitable, and Your decision concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the eternal knowledge of the Unseen, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a remover of my grief, and a banisher of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibn 'abdik, ibn amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm al-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to a companion who was experiencing worry, is incredibly comprehensive. While its primary context was worry, its profound reliance on Allah's names and attributes, and its request for the Quran to be a source of ease and clarity, makes it highly effective for building inner strength and overcoming the mental barriers of shyness. It reminds us that true eloquence and confidence stem from our connection with Allah and His Book.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) when he complained of worry: 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "If anyone is afflicted with distress or suffering and says (as a prayer): اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي عَبْدُكَ، ابْنُ عَبْدِكَ، ابْنُ أَمَتِكَ، نَاصِيَتِي بِيَدِكَ، مَاضٍ فِيَّ حُكْمُكَ، عَدْلٌ فِيَّ قَضَاؤُكَ، أَسْأَلُكَ بِكُلِّ اسْمٍ هُوَ لَكَ، سَمَّيْتَ بِهِ نَفْسَكَ، أَوْ أَنْزَلْتَهُ فِي كِتَابِكَ، أَوْ عَلَّمْتَهُ أَحَدًا مِنْ خَلْقِكَ، أَوْ اسْتَأْثَرْتَ بِهِ فِي عِلْمِ الغَيْبِ عِنْدَكَ، أَنْ تَجْعَلَ القُرْآنَ رَبِيعَ قَلْبِي، وَنُورَ صَدْرِي، وَجِلَاءَ حُزْنِي، وَذَهَابَ هَمِّي. *Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibn 'abdik, ibn amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm al-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.* (O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is inevitable, and Your decision concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the eternal knowledge of the Unseen, that You make the Quran the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a remover of my grief, and a banisher of my worries.) Then Allah will remove his distress and replace his sorrow with joy." (Musnad Ahmad 1/391, classified as Hasan by scholars)
