Gatherings & Meetings
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3803

All praise is due to Allah by Whose grace good deeds are perfected. O Allah, I ask You for the good of this matter and the good of what is in it and the good of what comes after it. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this matter and the evil of what is in it and the evil of what comes after it.

Al-hamdulillahilladhi bini'matihi tatimmus-salihât. Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hâdhal-amri wa khayra ma fihi wa khayra ma ba'dahu. Wa a'udhu bika min sharri hâdhal-amri wa sharri ma fihi wa sharri ma ba'dahu.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua seeks the best of an action or encounter and seeks refuge from its potential evils. It reminds us that all good comes from Allah and that He is our ultimate protector against any perceived or actual difficulties.

Source & Authentication

Ibn Majah narrated from Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wanted to do something, he would pray two rak'ahs of prayer and then say: 'Al-hamdulillahilladhi bini'matihi tatimmus-salihât. Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hâdhal-amri wa khayra ma fihi wa khayra ma ba'dahu. Wa a'udhu bika min sharri hâdhal-amri wa sharri ma fihi wa sharri ma ba'dahu.' (Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 34, Hadith 3803). While this hadith specifically mentions praying two rak'ahs for significant endeavors, the core dua itself can be recited in simpler forms for various situations where one seeks Allah's guidance and protection, including interactions with others.
