Dua for Blessings and Unity in Family Gatherings

Gatherings & Meetings
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 3107

O Allah, bless our fruits, bless our city, bless our measure (of food), and bless our Sa' (a measure). O Allah, grant us well-being along with the means to reach our destination. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, from the change of Your protection, from the suddenness of Your punishment, and from all Your displeasure.

Allahumma barik lana fi thamarina, wa barik lana fi madinatina, wa barik lana fi sa'ina, wa barik lana fi muddina. Allahumma-j'al ma'a al-'afiyati balagha. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuji'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik.

When to Read

This beautiful dua is perfect for reciting at the beginning of any family gathering or reunion. Whether it's a simple dinner, Eid celebration, or a special occasion, invoking Allah's blessings ensures that the gathering is infused with peace, harmony, and divine favor. Imagine everyone arriving, settling in, and then the host or a respected elder recites this, setting a beautiful tone for the time spent together.

How to Read

It is best to recite this dua with sincerity and a hopeful heart. Ideally, it should be recited aloud so that everyone present can hear and inwardly say 'Ameen' (O Allah, accept). The emphasis is on asking Allah to bless not just the physical provisions (fruits, food measures) but also the place (our city) and the well-being of those gathered. Pay attention to the words of seeking refuge, acknowledging our dependence on Allah's continuous favor and protection from His displeasure.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication encapsulates comprehensive requests for a family gathering. It asks for **barakah** (blessings) in provisions, which is vital for sustenance and contentment. By asking for blessings in the 'city,' it extends the request to the community and environment where the gathering takes place. More importantly, it seeks Allah's **'afiyah** (well-being and protection) and crucially, refuge from the loss of these blessings and His displeasure, ensuring the gathering remains pleasing to Him and beneficial for all involved. It fosters a sense of gratitude and reliance on Allah, strengthening the spiritual bond within the family.

Source & Authentication

The hadith describes the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ supplicating for blessings in Madinah, and this specific dua is a beautiful adaptation for any setting, including family gatherings. When Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet ﷺ to bless him and his family with abundant blessings, the Prophet ﷺ made this extensive dua for him. This shows the importance the Prophet ﷺ placed on seeking blessings in all aspects of life, including the places we live and the food we share.
