Gatherings & Meetings
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 7

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

Recite this dua before you begin a community project meeting, or any important gathering where decisions need to be made and collaborative effort is required. It's beneficial to say it as the attendees are settling in, or just before the first item on the agenda is discussed. This sets a positive and productive tone, seeking Allah's blessing on the proceedings.

How to Read

Recite this with sincerity and a clear intention for the success of the project and the well-being of the community. Imagine the positive impact of beneficial knowledge leading to good decisions, pure intentions guiding actions, and accepted deeds for the sake of Allah. It can be recited individually by participants or by the leader of the meeting, asking Allah to bless the gathering.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) when she asked what to say when starting a gathering, encapsulates the essence of seeking good in all aspects of endeavor. Beneficial knowledge leads to wise choices, pure provisions ensure the project is built on ethical foundations, and accepted deeds mean our efforts are rewarded by Allah. For a community project meeting, this translates to effective collaboration, ethical project execution, and a result that pleases Allah and benefits the community.

Source & Authentication

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: Whenever the Prophet ﷺ (peace be upon him) was with me, he would often say after taking hold of his head: 'O Allah, I ask You for the best of this world and the best of the Hereafter. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the punishment of the Fire, and the punishment of the grave, and the trial of the wealth, and the trial of children, and the trial of the grave, and the trial of the Dajjal. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, and piety, and chastity, and self-sufficiency.' And when he said (upon departing): 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, and pure provisions, and accepted deeds.' *Note: While the full hadith mentions a longer dua, the specific portion for starting a gathering, and thus a meeting, focuses on seeking beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and accepted deeds.*
