The narrator said: 'I asked Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the supplication made when one sets out on a journey. He said: Allah is the Greatest. (Allahu Akbar). Then he taught me the following: 'O Allah, the Exalted, the Great, I ask You for the good of this journey and its people, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this journey and its people.' Then he said: 'When you enter a town, say: Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and what they overshadow, Lord of the earth and what it carries, I ask You for the good of this town and its people, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of this town and its people, and from the evil of what is in it, and from the evil of its merchants.' Then he said: 'When you enter a town, come to its people and greet them with peace, and eat what they offer you.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 2092). While the primary context of this hadith is travel in general, its principles extend to journeying for specific gatherings, making a similar supplication highly relevant.
