Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.

ʿĀʾishah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ never sat for a duration, nor stood, nor recited Qurʾān, nor performed any prayer, but he concluded them with certain words. ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked him what words they were, and he said: "Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance." A man asked: "O Messenger of Allah, you conclude your sitting for a duration, standing, reciting Qurʾān, and prayers with these words." He replied: "Yes. Anyone who does good, these words will be a purification for him, and anyone who does badly, they will be expiation for him." (Sunan Abi Dawud 4860, Sahih)
