Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and I turn to You in repentance.
Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, ash-hadu al-la ilaha illa anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilaik.
When to Read
This dua is specifically recommended to be recited at the end of a gathering. It serves as an expiation for any unintended shortcomings, idle talk, or even unintentional broken oaths or promises made during the meeting. It's particularly fitting for gatherings where commitments might have been discussed, reinforcing the need for accountability and seeking Allah's forgiveness for any slips.
How to Read
Recite this dua sincerely after the meeting concludes, preferably before dispersing. Focus on the meaning of the words, acknowledging Allah's perfection and seeking His forgiveness for any unintentional wrongdoings, including those related to oaths and promises made in the gathering.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as an expiation for gatherings. It cleanses any deficiencies or negative impacts from the assembly. When people make oaths or promises, there's always a risk of falling short, either intentionally or unintentionally. This dua directly addresses that potential, seeking Allah's pardon and purification for the participants of the gathering.
Source & Authentication
‘Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “No people ever sit in a gathering without having spoken ill of Allah and the^{-1} unless they rise from it as if they have risen from a donkey's carcass, and it will be a cause of regret for them (on the Day of Resurrection). So, if any of you were to stand up from his assembly and recite this invocation: 'Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You. I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek Your forgiveness and turn to You in repentance.' – he would be forgiven for whatever was said in his assembly.”
