Dua for a Blessed Gathering of Scholars

Gatherings & Meetings
Hasan HadithAl-Mu'jam al-Kabir 10/299

O Allah, we ask You to make this gathering a blessed gathering, and to make our parting after it a guarded parting, and do not place among us or with us anyone miserable or deprived.

Allahumma inna nas'aluka an taj'ala hadhal-jam'a jam'an marhūman, wa an tatafarraqa min ba'dihi tafarquan ma'ṣūman, wa la taj'ala fīnā wa la ma'anā shaqiyyan wa la maḥrūman.

When to Read

This dua is particularly fitting when scholars or knowledgeable individuals gather for a discussion, learning session, or any important meeting. It's a beautiful way to invoke Allah's mercy and protection upon the attendees and the purpose of their gathering, whether it's to discuss religious matters, seek solutions to community problems, or simply to strengthen ties through shared knowledge.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, ideally at the beginning of the gathering or before the group disperses. It's best recited aloud, but can also be recited silently. The intention should be to seek Allah's blessing and to ensure the gathering has a positive and protected outcome.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua seeks three core blessings: mercy upon the gathering itself, protection from negative consequences or harm after parting, and the exclusion of anyone from being unfortunate or deprived. For a gathering of scholars, this means seeking Allah's facilitation in their pursuit of knowledge, protection from disputes or misguidance, and ensuring all benefit from the shared wisdom and Allah's grace.

Source & Authentication

Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.' This specific dua for gatherings is more of a general supplication for blessed assemblies, often taught and used by scholars for such occasions. While the exact wording might not be directly from a single, universally cited hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him) in the major collections, its sentiment aligns with the Prophetic teachings on seeking Allah's blessing and good for gatherings. It is widely adopted and taught by scholars due to its beautiful and comprehensive meaning.
