Gatherings & Meetings
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3385

بَارَكَ اللَّهُ لَكَ وَبَارَكَ عَلَيْكَ وَجَمَعَ بَيْنَكُمَا فِي خَيْرٍ

May Allah bless you, and shower His blessings upon you, and bring you together in goodness.

Barakallahu laka wa baraka 'alaika wa jama'a bainakuma fi khairin

When to Read

This beautiful dua is traditionally recited for a couple on their wedding, but its essence is perfectly suited for any family gathering, especially a reunion. As families come together, often after periods of separation, it's a powerful moment to invoke Allah's blessings (barakah) upon the gathering, upon each family member present, and upon the unity (jam') of the family. Recite this at the beginning of your reunion, perhaps as the elders or hosts welcome everyone, or during a meal when you can all face each other and make supplication.

How to Read

This dua is meant to be recited with sincere intention and a hopeful heart. Face the family members you are addressing or the gathering as a whole. Raise your hands as you might during other supplications, or simply offer it with a gentle gesture. The key is the sincerity of the wish for Allah's blessings and unity for your family. You can also adapt it slightly to be a general supplication for the entire gathering: 'Barakallahu lana wa baraka 'alaina wa jama'a bainana fi khairin' (May Allah bless us, and shower His blessings upon us, and bring us together in goodness).

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua for a family gathering invokes Allah's 'barakah', which is a divine abundance and goodness that permeates all aspects of life. When this barakah is sought for a reunion, it means asking Allah to fill the time spent together with His mercy, love, understanding, and protection. It ensures that the gathering isn't just a social event, but a spiritual one, strengthening the bonds of kinship (silat ar-rahim), which is highly emphasized in Islam. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Whoever would like his rizq (provision) to be expanded and his life to be prolonged, should uphold the ties of kinship.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5985). This dua directly supports that aim by seeking blessings for the very act of coming together.

Source & Authentication

The full narration in Sunan Abi Dawud (3385) describes the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teaching Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) this dua when they were to be married. While its context is a wedding, the wording about bringing people 'together in goodness' makes it universally applicable to any positive assembly of family.
