When to Read
This dua is specifically recommended to be recited *after* the Fajr prayer on Friday, as part of the Sunnah practices for the blessed day. It's a beautiful way to begin Jumu'ah with intentions for spiritual growth and acceptance of our worship throughout the week.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, ideally after finishing the Fajr prayer on Friday. Reflect on the meaning of each request: the desire for knowledge that benefits the heart and mind, provision that is lawful and pure, and deeds that are accepted by Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this specific dua to be recited on the day of Jumu'ah after Fajr prayer. While the wording focuses on beneficial knowledge, good provision, and accepted deeds, the very act of turning to Allah with such humble requests on this blessed day is a means of drawing closer to Him. It sets a spiritual tone for the rest of the day, preparing us for Jumu'ah prayer and its immense rewards. The general principle of seeking knowledge, pure sustenance, and accepted deeds are fundamental to seeking Allah's pleasure and are pathways to His mercy, which can, in turn, lead to the cleansing of sins.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'The day of Jumu'ah is the master of days and the greatest before Allah. It is greater than Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. It has five characteristics: Allah created it, Adam was born on it, Allah caused Adam to descend to earth on it, Allah will cause him to die on it, and in it there is a time when no one asks Allah for anything good but He will give it to them.' He said: 'In it there is no one who prays and supplicates to Allah except that Allah responds to his supplication, so seek it while you are praying.' He said: 'It is the day of Jumu'ah. I said: O Messenger of Allah, what is that hour?' He said: 'It is from after Asr until the sun sets.' He also said: 'Whoever recites it after the Fajr prayer on Friday: O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, and provision that is good and deeds that are accepted - it will be incumbent upon him to perform it (i.e. he will enter Paradise).'
