O Allah, make it [Jumu'ah] a means of attaining closeness for us, and do not make it a cause of burden upon us. Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.
Allahumma ij'alha hajjatan lana wa la taj'alha hujatan 'alayna. Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar.
When to Read
This comprehensive supplication can be recited after the Jumu'ah prayer, particularly after the obligatory prayers are completed. It's also fitting to make this dua on the day of Jumu'ah in general, seeking Allah's acceptance of all our acts of worship, especially the congregational prayer which holds immense significance.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a humble heart, reflecting on the meaning of seeking Allah's pleasure and protection. Ensure you have performed Wudu and are in a state of cleanliness. Raising your hands is permissible after obligatory prayers for supplication.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking Allah's acceptance of our Jumu'ah prayer is crucial for its spiritual impact. The Quranic verse beautifully encapsulates the desire for goodness in both this life and the next, which is the ultimate aim of our worship. The Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ taught us to make this specific dua ('Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan...') frequently, highlighting its comprehensive nature for seeking well-being in all aspects. Making Jumu'ah a 'hajjah lana' (a means of attainment for us) means it benefits us, bringing us closer to Allah, rather than becoming a missed opportunity or a cause of regret ('hujjah 'alayna').
