اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and deeds that are accepted.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan
When to Read
This beautiful and comprehensive dua is particularly poignant to recite on Friday. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often say it after the Fajr prayer on this blessed day. It's also a powerful dua to make at any time, especially before starting any important task or at the beginning of a new endeavor, seeking Allah's blessing for success and acceptance.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction. Raise your hands as you would in any supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Reflect on the meaning of each part: asking for knowledge that benefits, sustenance that is pure and lawful, and deeds that are accepted by our Creator. It's a comprehensive request covering our spiritual, material, and practical life.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates three essential pillars for a believer's success in this life and the next. 1. **Beneficial Knowledge ('Ilman Naafi'an):** This isn't just about accumulating facts, but knowledge that leads to righteous action and fear of Allah. It's knowledge that guides us, protects us from misguidance, and increases our understanding of the Deen. 2. **Pure Provisions (Rizqan Tayyiban):** This encompasses lawful and good earnings, health, family, and everything else Allah provides. It's a request that our sustenance be free from any unlawful taint, bringing barakah (blessings). 3. **Accepted Deeds ('Amalan Mutaqabbalan):** This is perhaps the most crucial part. We can strive and do many good deeds, but their true value lies in their acceptance by Allah. This requires sincerity (ikhlas), following the Sunnah, and performing them in the best manner. The Prophet ﷺ's habit of reciting this on Friday highlights the importance of seeking these three things on a day that holds immense virtue for Muslims.
Source & Authentication
The narration states that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when asked what the best dua is, said: 'The dua on the Day of Arafah, and the best that I and the prophets before me said is: *La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadeer* (There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and to Him belongs praise, and He is powerful over all things). And the best dua on Friday is: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provisions, and deeds that are accepted.' (Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan).
