โœฆ

Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers.

Rabbana dhalamna anfusana wa in lam taghfir lana wa tarhamna lanakoonanna minal-khasireen

When to Read

This powerful dua, taught by Allah to Adam and Hawwa (may Allah be pleased with them) after their mistake, is perfect for any time we realize we've fallen short, especially when acknowledging our own shortcomings in character, like pride. Recite it during your daily prayers, after salah, or any moment you feel a pang of regret or recognize the presence of arrogance within yourself.

How to Read

Recite this verse with sincere intention and a humble heart. Recognize your own vulnerability and dependence on Allah's forgiveness and mercy. Feel the weight of your sins and the earnest desire to be from those who are successful, not among the losers. It's best recited after fulfilling your obligatory prayers, but its beauty lies in its applicability whenever the heart feels the need to turn to its Creator.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a direct supplication taught by Allah Himself, signifying its immense importance. It acknowledges our own wrongdoings ('We have wronged ourselves') and explicitly seeks Allah's dual blessings of forgiveness and mercy. By admitting our need, we open the doors to Allah's compassion, moving away from the state of loss and towards salvation. Pride is a destructive spiritual ailment, and this dua, by its very nature of admitting fault, directly counters it, reminding us of our subservient position to our Creator.
