Dua for Forgiveness: Seeking Refuge and Pardon After Trials

Forgiveness
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 745

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective, and Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or that You have taught to any of Your creation, or that You have sent down in Your Book, or that You have kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that You possess, to make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya h hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitifika, aw 'statharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah bin Masud: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, 'No servant is afflicted with anxiety or grief, and he says: O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective, and Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or that You have taught to any of Your creation, or that You have sent down in Your Book, or that You have kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that You possess, to make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the remover of my worries.' But if he said it, Allah would remove his anxiety and grief, and replace it with joy.' He was asked: 'O Messenger of Allah! Should we learn these words?' He replied: 'Yes, indeed. It is incumbent upon everyone who hears them after he has reached puberty.'
