اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ

O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me by Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.

Allahumma akfini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwak

When to Read

This dua is excellent to recite before starting your revision, as you enter the exam hall, or at any moment you feel overwhelmed by distractions. It's a prayer for Allah to provide you with enough mental clarity and focus that you don't need to worry about external temptations or internal anxieties.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands slightly if possible, similar to how you would make other supplications. Focus on the meaning: asking Allah to provide you with what is lawful and to make you self-sufficient through His grace. Imagine your mind becoming clear and your focus sharp as you utter these words.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), is a comprehensive request. By asking Allah to suffice you with lawful provision, you're essentially asking Him to grant you the mental ability to understand and recall information in a way that is pure and untainted by haram means (like cheating). The second part, asking to be enriched by His grace, is a plea for contentment and independence from needing to resort to desperate measures due to anxiety. It helps in overcoming the anxiety and fear that often lead to distractions and mistakes.

Source & Authentication

The narrator mentioned that a poor man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked him, 'O Messenger of Allah, I have been reduced to poverty and have dependents. What should I do?' He said, 'O my Lord, pray to Allah and ask Him for sustenance.' So he prayed, and then came to the Prophet ﷺ. He said, 'O Messenger of Allah, my prayer has been answered.' He said, 'O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful provision instead of Your unlawful provision, and enrich me by Your grace, so that I may not need anyone other than You.' Then he came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, my prayer has been answered.' He said, 'My Lord is Allah.' This hadith was narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), and Tirmidhi said it is Hasan Gharib.
