Dua for Success in Entrance Exams

Exams
Sahih HadithSahih Ibn Hibban 790

اللَّهُمَّ لا سَهْلَ إِلاَّ مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلاً، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلاً

O Allah, there is no ease except what You make easy. If You will, You can make difficulty easy.

Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja'altahu sahlan, wa anta taj'alul hazna idha shi'ta sahlan

When to Read

This powerful dua is best recited before you start studying for your entrance exams, right before you enter the exam hall, and even during moments of stress or difficulty while preparing. It’s a sincere request to the One who controls all matters, asking Him to make the path clear and the outcome favorable.

How to Read

Recite this dua with complete sincerity and focus, raising your hands slightly if possible (as is customary for supplication). Believe firmly that Allah has the power to make even the most challenging situations effortless for you. It’s also beneficial to follow this with specific requests for success in your exams and for the knowledge to be beneficial.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication acknowledges Allah's absolute power over all affairs. When we ask Him to make something easy, we are recognizing that ease comes only from Him. It helps to calm anxiety, build reliance on Allah (Tawakkul), and opens the doors to unexpected help and success, by the permission of Allah. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his cousin, Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), when he asked for assistance in understanding and memorizing poetry, showing its applicability to seeking ease in learning and tasks.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): One day I was behind the Prophet (ﷺ) and he said, 'O young man! I shall teach you some words of wisdom. Protect Allah (by obeying Him) and Allah will protect you. Remember Allah's favors unto you in return for your remembering Him. If you ask (for anything), ask it from Allah. And if you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that if all the Ummah (all mankind or the Ummah of Prophet Muhammad) gathered together to benefit you with something, they would not be able to benefit you except with something that Allah had already decreed for you. And if they gathered to harm you with something, they would not be able to harm you except with something that Allah had already decreed for you. The pens are lifted and the ink has dried up.' Then he (ﷺ) said: 'Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja'altahu sahlan, wa anta taj'alul hazna idha shi'ta sahlan.' (O Allah, there is no ease except what You have made easy. You make the difficulty easy if You wish).
