Dua for Receiving Exam Results

Exams
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1718

O Allah, I ask You for the goodness of this matter, and the goodness of what is in it, and the goodness of what it has been sent with. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this matter, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with.

Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadhal-amri wa khayra ma fihi wa khayra ma ursila bihi, wa a'udhu bika min sharri hadhal-amri wa sharri ma fihi wa sharri ma ursila bihi.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to say when he sought guidance in a matter: 'Allahumma inni astakhiruka bi ilmika, wa asta'diruka bi qudratika, wa as'aluka min fadlikal-'Adheem. Fa innaka taqdiru wa la aqdiru, wa ta'lamu wa la a'lamu, wa anta 'allamul-ghuyoob. Allahumma in kunta ta'lamu anna hadhal-amra 'khayrun li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa 'aqibati amri' - or he said ' 'ajili amri wa ajilihi' - 'fa qaddirhu li wa yassirhu li thumma barik li fihi. Wa in kunta ta'lamu anna hadhal-amra 'sharrun li fi dini wa ma'ashi wa 'aqibati amri' - or he said ' 'ajili amri wa ajilihi' - 'fasrifhu 'anni wasrifni 'anhu wa qaddir li al-khayra haythu kan thumma ardhini bih.' (O Allah, I seek Your guidance with Your knowledge, and seek ability with Your power, and I ask of Your great bounty. For You decree and I have no power, and You know and I have no knowledge, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter [he mentioned his need] is good for me in my religion, my livelihood and my end [or: in my present and my future], then decree it for me and make it easy for me, and then bless it for me. And if You know that this matter is evil for me in my religion, my livelihood and my end [or: in my present and my future], then turn it away from me and turn me away from it, and decree for me that which is good wherever it may be, and make me pleased with it.)' And the phrase: 'Wa a'udhu bika min sharri hadhal-amri wa sharri ma fihi wa sharri ma ursila bihi' was also part of it (And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this matter, and the evil of what is in it, and the evil of what it has been sent with). It was narrated from Jabir that he said: 'The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to teach us the istikhara prayer in all matters, just as he used to teach us a Surah from the Quran. He said: "When any one of you is concerned about a matter, he should perform two rak'ahs of prayer other than the obligatory ones, and then say: O Allah, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge, and seek power through Your power, and I ask of Your great bounty. For You decree and I have no power, and You know and I have no knowledge, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if You know that this matter is good for me in this world and in the Hereafter – or he said: in my religion and my worldly affairs and my final end – then decree it for me, make it easy for me, and bless it for me. And if You know that this matter is evil for me in this world and in the Hereafter – or he said: in my religion and my worldly affairs and my final end – then turn it away from me, and turn me away from it, and decree for me that which is good wherever it may be, and make me pleased with it."'
