Exams
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2739

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demise of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik

When to Read

This profound dua is exceptionally fitting to recite before, during, or after examinations. Examinations can feel like a trial, and we seek Allah's protection not just from failing, but from losing the blessings of our knowledge, the ease He grants us, and His pleasure. Recite it when you feel overwhelmed or worried about the outcome of your tests.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincere intention and a heartfelt plea to Allah. Raise your hands if possible, face the Qiblah, and repeat it with conviction. Believe that Allah hears your supplication and will respond in the way that is best for you. It's also beneficial to understand the meaning deeply as you recite it, focusing on each aspect of protection you are seeking.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses comprehensive protection. By seeking refuge from the 'demise of Your blessings,' we are asking Allah not to let our acquired knowledge vanish or become useless. Seeking refuge from the 'change of Your protection' means asking Him to maintain His cover over us, preventing difficulties and hardship from befalling us. Asking protection from 'sudden vengeance' and 'all Your displeasure' is a plea for Allah's mercy and forgiveness, especially when we might inadvertently fall short or make mistakes. In the context of exams, this translates to seeking Allah's help so that the stress and pressure don't lead to spiritual or mental distress, and that our efforts are met with His grace.

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge with these words: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demise of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure.)
