O Allah, open for us the opening of those who know, by Your wisdom, and spread over us the treasures of Your mercy, O Owner of majesty and generosity.
Allahumma-ftah 'alayna futuhal-'arifeena bi hikmatika wanshur 'alayna khaza'ina rahmatika ya dhal-jalali wal-ikram
When to Read
Recite this dua before you begin any study session, whether it's for academic subjects, religious learning, or any form of acquiring knowledge. Say it with sincerity just as you're about to open a book, turn on a lecture, or begin your revision. It's a beautiful way to commence your pursuit of knowledge by acknowledging Allah's power to grant understanding.
How to Read
Face the direction of the Qiblah if possible, or face whichever direction you are comfortable with. Raise your hands slightly, as you would in a regular dua. Recite it with a clear intention, focusing on your desire to learn and understand. Begin with 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) before reciting the dua itself. It's best recited before you actually start reading or listening to the material you wish to learn.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a powerful request to Allah (SWT) to grant you the kind of understanding that comes from those who truly know Him and His creation. It seeks not just memory, but true comprehension and insight. By asking for the 'treasures of Your mercy,' you're asking for Allah to make the knowledge accessible and beneficial to you, removing obstacles and opening your mind to its depths. It also instills humility and dependence on Allah, recognizing that all knowledge and understanding ultimately come from Him.
