Exams
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 925

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This dua is perfect for reciting after completing your exams, as you stand at a crossroads of your life. It's a moment when the future feels both exciting and uncertain, and seeking Allah's guidance is paramount. You can make this a regular part of your supplications as you begin to explore different career options, attend interviews, or make significant decisions about your professional path.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincerity and conviction, with your hands raised, facing the Qiblah if possible. Believe that Allah (SWT) will respond to your sincere plea. While this specific dua is concise, you can expand on it by asking Allah to open doors to careers that are pleasing to Him, that provide sustenance for yourself and your family, and that allow you to contribute positively to society. It's also wise to follow this dua with Istikhara, the prayer for guidance, if you're facing a major decision.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his wife Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), encapsulates seeking the best in three crucial areas of life: 'Ilman naafi'an' (beneficial knowledge) helps you make sound decisions, 'rizqan tayyiban' (pure provision) ensures your sustenance is lawful and blessed, and 'amalan mutaqabbalan' (accepted deeds) means your efforts are recognized and rewarded by Allah. Seeking beneficial knowledge is particularly relevant now, as you need wisdom to discern the right career path. Pure provision ensures your livelihood is a source of barakah, not worry. Accepted deeds mean that whatever career you choose, you strive to do it in a way that is pleasing to Allah.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say: 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds.' 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: 'If the Prophet ﷺ saw a funeral procession or noticed something that made him feel uneasy, he would recite these words.' (This indicates the profound importance the Prophet ﷺ placed on seeking these three things, not just in times of ease but also when facing concerns.)
