Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 3649

"O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is enacted. Your decision concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to any one of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept with You in the knowledge of the unseen; that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my grief, and a reliever of my worries."

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiq, aw asta'tharta bihi fi 'ilm al-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jala'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, is incredibly beneficial when facing disappointment, especially after exams. When those results aren't what you hoped for, and a wave of sadness or worry washes over you, turn to this supplication. It helps shift your focus from worldly outcomes to the ultimate source of comfort and guidance: the Qur'an and Allah Himself.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a hopeful heart. Understand that Allah tests us in various ways, and sometimes a setback is a means for something greater. Begin by acknowledging Allah's sovereignty and power, as the dua emphasizes. Then, humbly ask Him to make the Qur'an a source of solace, clarity, and peace for your heart, especially during difficult times. It's recommended to make this a regular practice, not just in moments of distress.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua directly addresses emotional distress and aims to replace worry and grief with spiritual contentment. By asking Allah to make the Qur'an the 'spring of the heart,' it means the Qur'an will bring life, growth, and renewal to your inner self, just as spring revives the earth. It's a profound request for inner peace and a reminder that true happiness and guidance lie in our connection with Allah and His Book. This supplication also helps reframe disappointments, encouraging reliance on Allah's wisdom.

Source & Authentication

A man said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I find myself often overcome by worries and thoughts.' The Prophet ﷺ replied: 'Shall I not teach you a comprehensive supplication which, if you say it, Allah will remove your worries and your errors?' The man said: 'Yes, of course.' The Prophet ﷺ then taught him this dua: 'Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiq, aw asta'tharta bihi fi 'ilm al-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jala'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.' (O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is enacted. Your decision concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to any one of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept with You in the knowledge of the unseen; that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my grief, and a reliever of my worries.)
