اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and deeds accepted.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan
When to Read
This dua is perfect for reciting before you begin studying, especially when you're feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start. It's also excellent to say in the morning before heading to your exam, asking Allah to bless your efforts and make the knowledge you've gained useful.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity, focusing on the meaning. Raise your hands if you are alone or in a setting where it is appropriate. Imagine Allah hearing your supplication and granting you His blessings. It's best to say it with your heart present, understanding you are asking the All-Knowing for help.
Virtues & Benefits
This profound dua, taught by our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, encompasses seeking three vital things: beneficial knowledge ('ilman naafi'an) which benefits you in this life and the next, pure and lawful provision (rizqan tayyiban), and deeds that are accepted by Allah ('amalan mutaqabbalan). When you ask for 'ilman naafi'an specifically for your exams, you're essentially asking Allah to make your studying effective, for the knowledge to stick, and to be able to recall it and apply it correctly, leading to success in a way that is pleasing to Him.
