Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, asks Allah for assistance in the core aspects of our faith: remembering Him, being grateful to Him, and worshipping Him properly. By internalizing these qualities, we cultivate a state of consciousness where our actions, including our conduct in exams and our interactions with examiners, are guided by Allah's pleasure. This inner state can naturally lead to a sense of peace and confidence, and implicitly, Allah may cause others to perceive and treat you with fairness when you are striving to please Him.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ heard a man supplicating during his prayer, saying: 'O Allah, I ask You, O Allah, the One Who is Unique, the Self-Sufficient Master Who was not begotten and was not begotten by, and equal to Him was not any one (of the creation).' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'He has indeed asked Allah by His Greatest Name, the One when asked by it He gives, and when supplicated to by it He answers.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 1522). While this hadith specifically mentions the Greatest Name, the principle of asking Allah for aid in good deeds, including striving for fairness and excellence, is a general sunnah. The dua chosen, 'Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika,' is a powerful request for divine assistance in all aspects of life.
