Exams
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2708

O Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth, our Lord and Lord of all things, the One who causes the grain and date-stones to split and sprout, the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur'an. I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things You are seizing by the forelock. O Allah, You are the First, and nothing is before You; You are the Last, and nothing is after You. You are the Outwardly Apparent, and nothing is above You; You are the Inwardly Unseen, and nothing is closer than You. Remove my debt and enrich me from poverty.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati wa Rabba al-ard, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay', Faliq al-habbi wan-nawa, wa Munzil at-Tawrati wal-Injili wal-Furqan. A'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun binasiyatih. Allahumma Anta al-Awwalu fa laysa qablaka shay', wa Anta al-Akhiru fa laysa ba'daka shay', wa Anta adh-Dhahiru fa laysa fawqaka shay', wa Anta al-Batinu fa laysa dunaka shay'. Iqdi 'anni ad-dayna wa aghnini minal-faqr.

When to Read

Recite this dua before you head to your exam, or even in the exam hall if permitted. It's particularly useful when you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or worried about the pressure. Take a moment to pause, collect your thoughts, and turn to Allah with this sincere supplication.

How to Read

Make the dua with sincerity and focus. Ensure you pronounce the Arabic clearly, or if you're still learning, focus on the meaning. It's recommended to raise your hands (if not in prayer or during times disliked for raising hands) and face the Qiblah, though this dua can be made in any state. The key is the earnestness of your heart and your reliance on Allah.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his companion Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) for debt relief, also contains profound words for seeking Allah's protection and acknowledging His absolute sovereignty. By reciting it, you are acknowledging Allah's power over all things, seeking His refuge from any unseen evil or difficulty that might hinder your performance, and asking for His provision and ease. It helps calm the heart by shifting focus from the perceived difficulty of the exam to the infinite mercy and power of Allah, fostering reliance (tawakkul) and reducing anxiety.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that a slave came to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am a slave, I have wronged myself and my property, now come and help me.' He said: 'Shall I not teach you words that if you say them, Allah will make your affairs easy, and if you have the equivalent of Mount Uhud in debt, Allah will pay it off for you?' He said: 'Yes, teach me.' He said: 'Say: O Allah, sufficient for me is Allah, there is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of the Heavens and the Earth, the Owner of Majesty and Generosity. I seek refuge in Allah, the Lord of the Heavens and the Lord of the earth, the Lord of the Arsh, the Most Exalted. (Allahumma kafini bihalalika 'an haramika, wa aghnini bifadlika 'amman siwaka). He said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me a du'a to say in the daytime for the debt, and if you have the equivalent of Mount Uhud in debt, Allah will pay it off for you. He said: 'Say: O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Great Throne, our Lord and the Lord of all things, the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel and the Qur'an, the Cleaver of the grain and the date-stone. I seek refuge in Allah, the Lord of all things, from the evil of the whisperers, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me.' (Allahumma Rabba as-samawati wa Rabba al-'arsh al-'adhim, Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay', munzila at-Tawrati wal-Injili wal-Furqan, faliq al-habbi wan-nawa. A'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun binasiyatih. Allahumma Anta al-Awwalu fa laysa qablaka shay', wa Anta al-Akhiru fa laysa ba'daka shay', wa Anta adh-Dhahiru fa laysa fawqaka shay', wa Anta al-Batinu fa laysa dunaka shay'. Iqdi 'anni ad-dayna wa aghnini minal-faqr). This version is more comprehensive and directly addresses the seeker's need for ease and protection.
