O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow. I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess. I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is a comprehensive shield against common human anxieties and struggles. By seeking refuge in Allah, we acknowledge His ultimate power over all matters and entrust our burdens to Him. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua to combat debilitating feelings like anxiety (hamm) and grief (hazan), as well as the paralyzing effects of weakness (ajz) and lethargy (kasal). It also protects against the crippling fear (jubn) and the miserliness (buhl) that can harm us and others. Crucially, it asks for protection from overwhelming debt and the dominance of people, which can weigh heavily on the soul. Reciting it regularly can bring immense peace, mental clarity, and a profound sense of reliance on Allah, especially during the quiet hours of the evening.

Narrated Abu Maslamah: I asked Anas, 'O Abu Mu'awiyah, what did the Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate?' Anas replied, 'Anas narrated to us that the Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate: "Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijali." He said: 'And I too used to supplicate with this, and we know that Allah has made us accept it and made us refrain from it (i.e. from paying the debt)'.
