โœฆ

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from weakness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This dua is particularly potent when recited in the evening, as dusk often brings a sense of weariness or an urge to delay tasks until the next day. Reciting it before sunset or as night begins to fall helps us seek Allah's protection against the mental and physical inertia that can lead to procrastination. It's a powerful supplication to clear our minds and energize us for the remaining hours of the day or to prepare us for a productive night's rest.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with full conviction in Allah's power to help. It's best to say it after completing the Asr prayer or as the sun begins to set. Raising your hands slightly, as is customary for supplication, can enhance the feeling of earnestness. Focus on each phrase, internalizing the meaning and truly seeking Allah's refuge from each specific ailment mentioned.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua addresses several afflictions that can hinder productivity and peace of mind. By seeking refuge from worry and grief, we protect our mental well-being. Asking protection from weakness and laziness directly combats procrastination. Shielding ourselves from cowardice and stinginess promotes courage and generosity. Finally, seeking refuge from debt and oppression secures our financial and social standing. When recited regularly, especially in the evening, it empowers us to face our tasks with renewed vigor and resilience, preventing the 'tomorrow' trap of procrastination.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from weakness and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the oppression of men.)
