Dua for Seeking Allah's Aid to Overcome Procrastination Before Night

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ وَقَهْرِ الرِّجَالِ.

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the tyranny of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is recommended to be recited in the evening, after the obligatory prayers or before retiring for the night. Reciting it as part of your evening adhkar is a way to seek protection and strength from Allah against the worries and inertia that can creep in, especially as the day draws to a close and we prepare for rest.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly seeking Allah's refuge. It's best recited while facing the Qiblah, with hands raised, though it can also be recited without these conditions.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is comprehensive in seeking protection from various negative states. Specifically concerning procrastination, 'laziness' (الْكَسَلِ - al-kasali) is directly addressed. By seeking refuge in Allah from it, we acknowledge our weakness and His power to help us overcome it. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companions, showing its importance in fostering a proactive and resilient spirit. Overcoming procrastination allows us to be more productive, fulfill our responsibilities, and avoid the distress and worry associated with unfinished tasks.
