Evening Adhkar
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5088

In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing can cause harm on earth or in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Bismillahi alladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i wa huwas-Samee'ul-Aleem.

When to Read

This powerful dua is recommended to be recited in the evening, after the Maghrib prayer, as part of our daily remembrance of Allah (Dhikr). It's a shield against all forms of harm, including the insidious evils that can arise from misuse of the tongue – gossip, slander, hurtful words, and more. Reciting it establishes a connection with Allah's protective power as night falls.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and full conviction in Allah's power. It is recommended to recite it three times each evening. Imagine Allah's name as a fortress, safeguarding you from any spoken harm or ill intentions directed towards you, or indeed, any harm at all.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ promised immense protection to the one who recites this dua. He stated, 'Whoever says this three times every morning will not be afflicted by any calamity until the evening comes; and whoever says it three times every evening will not be afflicted by any calamity until the morning comes.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 5088). This protection encompasses physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being, including safeguarding us from the consequences of evil speech and keeping our own tongues pure.
